Teen seriously injured in Hoover shooting

HOOVER, Ala. (WIAT) -- A 16-year-old was seriously wounded in a shooting Monday morning.

Officers with the Hoover Police Department responded to The Benton Apartment Homes on Primm Lane around 7:16 a.m. following reports of gunfire in the area. Upon arrival, officers discovered the teen shot, and he was taken to UAB Hospital for treatment.

According to Hoover Police Department, the teen was sitting in his vehicle outside the apartments when he was shot. No one is in custody at this time and officers are still on scene interviewing witnesses.

Hoover Mayor Frank Brocato released the following statement regarding the shooting:

Please join me in praying for one of our students who was tragically involved in a shooting this morning. I’m deeply sickened by this senseless act of violence. I want to commend our police and fire departments for their swift response and immediate medical care for this young person.

Our police officers are diligently working to piece together the evidence. To those involved, let it be known: we will not tolerate this in our city. We will seek you out and prosecute you to the fullest extent of the law.
