MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WIAT) -- Some believe the Democratic Party is more united than ever two weeks after President Joe Biden stepped down from the ticket.
Now that the party has chosen Vice President Kamala Harris to be their nominee, many delegates are anxious to see who her running mate will be.
"She kind of reminds me of coach Nick Saban. She has that motivational ability to motivate," said State Rep. Curtis Travis (D-Tuscaloosa), a first-time delegate to the convention.
Above all, Travis said Harris has brought a different energy to the Democratic Party.
"President Biden and his leadership, he's done a great job," Travis said. "But now all of a sudden, it's like you went into the room and flipped on a light switch, the overnight excitement."
When it comes to who her running mate will be, the opinions of Democratic delegates vary.
"If it was my call, I would be Mark Kelly," Rep. Travis said. "Because I think Mark Kelly's experience as an astronaut is really great."
"Senator Kelly in Arizona, Governor Shapiro in Pennsylvania, Governor Beshear in Kentucky...those would all be great choices as well," Jason Fisher said.
"She's done an exceptional job with President Biden and being his partner. She needs someone who can be equally steadfast with her," said delegate Josh Coleman, who serves on the Democratic National Committee.
However, a Republican representative of Alabama believes otherwise when it comes to these top choices.
"I don't think it's going to compliment her ticket as such, at least from my view," said State Rep. Mack Butler (R-Gadsden). "I have night and day different views as most Republicans do from the party."
The Democratic National Convention will take place from August 19 through 22 in Chicago.
