Birmingham Squadron using Lakeshore Foundation as primary practice home

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- The Birmingham Squadron announced last week Lakeshore Foundation is the franchise's primary practice home.

Lakeshore Foundation, located in Homewood, is a U.S. Olympic and Paralympic training site. It is also where the Lakeshore Sports Science and Performance Center is located. Lakeshore Foundation claims it is a world leader in health promotion, research, fitness, recreation, sports advocacy for people with a disability, veterans, seniors and parasport events.

“We could not be happier to partner with Lakeshore Foundation as this incredible organization becomes our new practice home,” said Squadron General Manager Leslie Claybrook in a statement. “While we also look back and express our thanks to Birmingham-Southern College and its staff for hosting our practices the past three years, Lakeshore Foundation offers us state-of-the-art facilities to help prepare our team for its season.”

Some Squadron practices will be held at Legacy Arena in the upcoming season. In the past, the Squadron has used Lakeshore Foundation for local player tryouts and media days.

“This is a major upgrade for our organization as we partner with Lakeshore Foundation and its Olympic and Paralympic-level training facilities,” said Squadron head coach T.J. Saint in a statement. “The facility gives our players and staff the ability to perform their jobs at the highest of levels."

The NBA G League affiliate of the New Orleans Pelicans will start its 2024-25 campaign against the Mexico City Capitanes at Legacy Arena on Saturday. It is the Squadron's fourth season calling the Magic City home.
