BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Cooling centers are open across Birmingham as sweltering heat and humidity cover the area.
Triple-digit heat indexes will continue across Alabama throughout the weekend, making conditions dangerous for people without air conditioning.
Residents can find cool water and shelter from the heat at the following stations:
- One Roof at 1515 6th Avenue South
- Open Monday through Friday from 9 am - 4 pm
- Birmingham Public Library (All locations)
- Faith Chapel Care Center at 921 2nd Avenue North
- Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday from 8:30 am - 12 pm
- Pathways at 409 Richard Arrington Jr. Blvd. North
- Monday through Sunday from 9 am - 3 pm
- Firehouse Ministries at 626 2nd Avenue North
- Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday from 2 pm - 4 pm
- Salvation Army at 2015 26th Avenue N, Birmingham, AL
- Monday through Friday from 9 am - 4 pm
- Food for Our Journey, traveling route downtown: 4th Avenue N and 23rd St. N, 9th Avenue S and 22nd St. South, Outside George Ward Park, 13th Street North and between 1st and 2nd Avenue.
