BESSEMER, Ala. (WIAT) — A drive-by shooting in Bessemer left four people injured Monday night during a candlelight vigil for the victims of a fatal shooting last week.
According to Bessemer Police Department Chief Michael Wood, shots were fired at the Citgo gas station on 200 Fourth Avenue North just after 9 p.m. Three people were struck and transported to UAB Hospital with not life-threatening injuries. BPD Det. Justin Burmeister said Tuesday a fourth person, a woman, later arrived at a hospital and was quickly discharged after suffering a not life-threatening injury from a gunshot wound.
Wood stated the vigil was being held for three men who were killed at the same Citgo location Friday night. However, he could not confirm if Monday's shooting was out of retaliation. He also said the Citgo may be shut down due to the string of recent shootings.
Those with information on the case are urged to call Bessemer police or submit an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.
This is a developing story.
