Unsettled pattern late week with cooler temperatures

Tonight: We’ll stay warm and muggy tonight with temperatures dropping into the upper 60s to lower 70s as skies remain mostly clear.

Tuesday: High temperatures will be a little cooler in the upper 80s but feeling like the lower to middle 90s with partly cloudy skies. A few scattered afternoon showers and storms are likely, but most of us will remain dry.

Looking Ahead: As we head into the middle of this week, the pattern becomes more unsettled. A cold front will slowly approach from the north, helping transport plenty of moisture into our area ahead of it. This front will not pass through until Friday night and Saturday, and a wave of energy is forecast to move through on Thursday and Friday. You’ll notice an increase in cloud cover on Wednesday with a couple light showers possible as this area of steady rain inches closer to Central Alabama. By Thursday afternoon, much of the region should be locked in with a steady, soaking rain.

This will continue into Friday, likely ending sometime during the afternoon or evening hours. Hopefully the rain can clear out before any Friday night football games, but confidence on exact timing and rainfall amounts are still being questioned. We’ll continue to monitor the forecast closely over the next few days as adjustments are likely. There still stands quite a bit of model discrepancy on the forecast for the second half of this week, but we are leaning towards the wetter solution. Widespread rain with cooler high temperatures in the upper 70s on Thursday and Friday. The cold front will sweep through on Saturday, ushering in low humidity and plenty of sunshine to last all weekend.

Due to the drier air, overnight lows will drop back into the 50s for much of the area by Sunday morning as highs remain warm, yet more comfortable in the lower 80s.
