TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) -- After an exciting Week 1 in college football, two Alabama players were each given an SEC weekly award.
Keon Sabb was named SEC Defensive Player of the Week after recording two interceptions in his Alabama debut Saturday. Sabb intercepted Western Kentucky quarterback TJ Finley in the second drive of the game on an errant throw and returned it 23 yards.
After Alabama scored its first touchdown of the season the next drive, WKU marched the ball to the Alabama 22-yard line before Sabb picked it off again and returned it 64 yards to the WKU 26-yard line.
Ryan Williams was named SEC Freshman of the Week after showing why there was so much hype and anticipation regarding his debut. Williams' first career touchdown came off an 84-yard long ball from quarterback Jalen Milroe.
Williams would reach the end zone for a second time before halftime after catching a pass down the middle of the field, breaking a tackle and taking it to the house for a 55-yard touchdown.
Alabama hosts USF in Bryant-Denny Stadium on Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
