BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- It's been a busy few days for NFL teams as the preseason has concluded and franchises have had to make cuts for its 53-man roster.
Some of the players cut may be re-signed to the team as a part of its practice squad. The 2024-25 NFL season will kick off Sept. 5 when the Baltimore Ravens take on the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs. There were several former Alabama players who were either placed on injured reserve to start the season, released or waived by their respective teams.
Christian Barmore, Christian Harris, DeMarco Hellams and Keilan Robinson have been placed on the injured reserve with designation to return. Barmore was named a third-team All-American in his sophomore campaign with the Crimson Tide and was selected with the 38th pick by the New England Patriots in the 2021 NFL Draft.
Harris earned a starting role at linebacker in his freshman season for the Tide. He was a semi-finalist for the Butkus and Lombardi awards in his junior season before being selected in the third round by the Houston Texans of the 2022 NFL Draft.
Hellams led Alabama in tackles during his senior season in 2022. He was taken with the 224th pick in the 2023 NFL Draft by the Atlanta Falcons. Keilan Robinson spent two years at the Capstone before transferring to Texas. In the 2024 NFL Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars selected him with the 167th pick.
