Tuesday: A ridge of high pressure aloft will remain to our west. Alabama will be on the eastern edge of it. We will be mostly sunny, hotter, and dry with less humid air. High temperatures will be in the middle 90s.
Rest of the Week: Wednesday and Thursday will stay hot and gradually become more humid. However, it will not be as muggy as we usually see for mid-August. There will be a low chance of a pop-up shower/storm on Thursday. Highs will be in the lower to middle 90s, and the heat index around 100 on Thursday.
More humid air returns on Friday. NW flow aloft will bring scattered showers and storms from north to south across Alabama. High temperatures will be in the lower 90s, and the heat index 100-105.
Weekend Outlook: The muggy weather will continue on Saturday ahead of a cold front. We will have scattered showers and storms with highs in the lower 90s. Models do not agree on when the cold front will move across the state. Right now, we will plan on it for Sunday morning so it will be partly cloudy with a stray shower possible. Highs will stay in the lower 90s. It will become less humid by Sunday night into Monday with lows in the upper 60s to around 70°.
Tracking the Tropics: PTC5 has become Tropical Storm Ernesto. It will track NW across Puerto Rico, and then turn north as it rides along the western edge of high pressure in the central Atlantic. This system is expected to strengthen into a hurricane by Thursday and become a CAT 2 hurricane or possibly a CAT 3 hurricane this weekend as it crosses over Bermuda. Then it will turn out to sea.
