UPDATE: The remains of a missing Ashville man were discovered Saturday.

According to a statement from the Rainbow City Police Department and St. Clair County Sheriff's Office, agencies found the remains of Roger Dale Whisman in the Canoe Creek area.

Rainbow City police received information Friday afternoon that Whisman was potentially last seen in the area of Rainbow Drive and Riddles Bend Road. Rainbow City police and fire personnel checked the area and a waterway. The Etowah County Sheriff's Office Dive Team searched the waterway, though the search was paused Friday night with a lack of daylight.

The search resumed Saturday morning. Assisting agencies notified the RCPD and SCCSO at around 12:49 p.m. that human remains, which were identified as Whisman's, were found down the Coosa River from the first search location.

Rainbow City Police Chief Camp Yancey says the details surrounding the investigation are limited.

“This is not anything to do with a boating accident. We don’t believe, we don’t have any indication that it has to do with anything recreational at this time,” said Yancey.

The Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Huntsville will conduct an autopsy on Whisman.
