HOOVER, Ala. (WIAT) — The fallout regarding shared Hudl videos continues after two Hoover High School football employees were placed on administrative leave.
On Wednesday, attorneys Juandalynn Givan and Reginald McDaniel held a press conference to discuss the case. They now are representing one of the team's football players.
Both believe the school district has not punished head football coach Drew Gilmer and defensive coordinator Adam Helms appropriately. This comes after a video obtained by WKRG appears to show an athletic department employee thrusting his hips in the face of a player.
“To place him on administrative leave is not enough,” Given said. “Because Gilmer committed acts that justify termination and being enjoined from ever coaching on any level going forth.”
The Hoover City School district has yet to state why the two men were placed on leave.
Attorney McDaniel says they’re also concerned for the welfare of the young man who was depicted in the video.
“He has dealt with a situation that has him emotionally distraught,” McDaniel noted. “As you can imagine, the attention this is getting has had a major impact on his emotional state and mind.”
Givan says as legal counsel, she will explore all potential claims both state and federal against the Hoover School System and Coach Gilmer. The football player's parents have also filed a report with the Hoover Police Department.
Calls to the head coach and the athletic director for comment on Wednesday have not been returned.
