BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- Birmingham police are searching for the suspects responsible for the fatal shooting of a man as he was driving his car nearly two years ago, whose 4-year-old daughter eventually died from her injuries.
Birmingham Police Department reports that Madison David, of Birmingham, suffered a traumatic brain injury in a crash along Arkadelphia Road that killed her father, Demarkus Moss Sr., on September 2, 2022. On June 25, she died while being treated at Children's of Alabama.
David, alongside her infant brother, was a passenger in a car driven Moss at the time of the crash. Police said Moss was traveling on the 1000 block of Arkadelphia Road around 5:50 p.m. when someone in another vehicle began firing shots into his car. Moss, who police claim was targeted in the shooting, was shot and subsequently crashed into a truck.
Moss, who was the only victim shot in the case, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash and his two children were taken to local hospitals for treatment. The status of Moss' surviving child has not been released.
The Jefferson County Medical Examiner's Office has since ruled Davis' death as a homicide. As of Thursday, no one has been charged in connection with either Moss' or Davis' deaths.
Anyone with information in the case is asked to call 205-254-1764 or Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.
