BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is set to air a new TV show to give the community an inside look into their day-to-day routine.
They're also using the show as a recruitment opportunity. The show will be called "Jefferson County Cam Watch" and officers say they're trying to bridge the gap between law enforcement and the community. JCSO Public Information Officer Henry Irby says it's a way to show transparency.
"Citizens will have an opportunity to see the everyday work that they do, how they protect, how they get out and patrol and the many things, the many wonderful things that they do in our communities," said Irby.
Irby says the show will introduce deputies personally and will open the door for deeper conversations about concerns within the community.
"In lieu of what's occurring around the country as I said earlier about bridging that gap, it's a wonderful opportunity to open discussions and just build those bridges," Irby said.
Irby says not only does the show intend to bring transparency, it's an opportunity to recruit more deputies.
"There's a shortage everywhere and within Jefferson County, the state of Alabama, you know we're all competing for the same applicant pool," said Irby.
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is producing the program. The first episode will air at 6:30 p.m. on July 13. It will be on CBS 42 and YouTube.
