Weekend Outlook: The cold front will stall across Central Alabama this weekend. This will not lower the humidity much, but it will feel a little better for North Alabama. Saturday will be partly cloudy with scattered showers and storms mainly along and south of I-20 where the cold front will stall. High temperatures will be in the lower 90s.
Sunday will be partly cloudy, hot, and more humid with scattered showers and storms as the front drifts back to the north. High temperatures will be in the middle 90s. Some of the outdoor events for the 2024 Transplant Games may be impacted by the storms in the afternoon and evening.
Next Week's Outlook: The old cold front will lift north as a warm front on Monday and Tuesday, and the remnants of Beryl will bring rain to Alabama. It will be partly cloudy with scattered showers and storms each day. Highs will be in the lower 90s, and the heat index 100-105°. Wednesday through Friday will be hot and humid with daily scattered storms. Highs will be in the lower to middle 90s and the heat index 100-105°
Tracking the Tropics: Beryl is now a tropical storm and continues to battle strong wind shear. Beryl is now in the Southern Gulf of Mexico where it is forecast to regain hurricane status by Sunday. Another possible landfall along the South-Central Texas Coast near Corpus Christi as a Category 1 to possibly a Category 2 hurricane is expected early Monday morning. Once inland, it will turn north and then northeast and weaken.
The inland remnants of Beryl and tropical moisture will bring rain to the Gulf Coast States early next week.
Drought: The Drought Monitor came out Thursday and shows much of Central Alabama is Abnormally Dry, and some areas around Birmingham have been added to moderate drought conditions. This data does not take into account the rain that fell the last few days.
