BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- The American Red Cross has issued an emergency blood shortage as hospitals report low supply against high demand.
According to the Red Cross, July's extreme heat impacted blood drives in every state where blood was collected. A lack of donors throughout the month struck a blow to the already low blood supply.
