Found under a bridge, lying on the sidewalk, and in hospice care: Coroner searching for families of 3 men who died in Birmingham

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The Jefferson County Coroner's Office is searching for the families of three men who were found dead in Birmingham over the last week.

The JCCO attempted to locate the families of these individuals, but have failed and are asking the public for help in locating them.

On July 26, Matthew Lee Gilmer was found dead under the Elton B. Stephens Expressway bridge in the 2600 block of 7th Avenue South. Gilmer, 37, was reportedly homeless at the time of his death, but had had past addresses listed in Birmingham, Center Point and Leeds. No evidence of foul play or trauma has been associated with Gilmer's death.

Lee Campbell Lewis

Lee Campbell Lewis, 56, died at Oak Knoll Health and Rehabilitation last Thursday. Lewis, originally from Longview, Texas, was reportedly under hospice care and had previously lived in Pelham, Hoover, Alabaster, Vestavia, Ashville, Shelby, Indian Springs, Wilsonville, Harpersville, Centerville in Georgia and Nashville.

On Friday, George Alton Walker was found dead on the sidewalk across from Birmingham Fire Station #1 on 7th Avenue North. Walker, 47, had lived in different places in Anniston as far back as 1998, but no current address has been found for him.
