Weekend: The heat will back down a notch through Sunday. While we aren't expecting a significant cooldown, afternoon highs will hold in the upper 80s to low 90s with heat peak index values in the upper 90s to near 100. A brief passing shower is possible, but the chance for any given location to get wet is low.
Next Week: Oppressive heat and humidity return by midweek. Similar to previous days, afternoon highs will return to the middle/upper 90s. Heat indices soar over 100 during the afternoons. Otherwise, plenty of hazy sunshine with only a limited coverage of showers and storms.
Tracking the Tropics: Tropical Depression 4 is passing over Western Cuba Saturday morning and is expected to become a tropical storm by tonight night as it moves into the Southeast Gulf of Mexico where conditions are favorable for strengthening. Model forecasts are in good agreement that it will track northeast toward The Big Bend of Florida by late Sunday or early Monday as a strong tropical storm or lower-end hurricane. For Alabama, we are not expecting any significant problems as the system will continue to move northeast next week, impacting South Georgia and The Carolinas.
