CARROLLTON, Ala. (WIAT) -- Two Pickens County men were sentenced to serve 20 years in prison for sexually abusing children, according to 24th Judicial Circuit of Alabama District Attorney Andrew Hamlin on Friday.

Timothy Lee Ferguson, a 44-year-old man from Reform, was sentenced to prison until 2043. Torey Scott Thompson, 33, of Gordo, is also set to stay in prison until 2043. The men entered guilty pleas in unrelated cases in July.

Because of the circumstances surrounding the crimes and the victims' ages, Hamlin stated Ferguson and Thompson are not eligible for early release and parole. Hamlin noted negotiated settlements followed consultation with the victims' families, and that no children testified at trial in these cases.

“These convictions represent our commitment to protecting and obtaining justice for the most vulnerable members of our community,” Hamlin said in a statement. “Our team of investigators and prosecutors will continue to vigorously pursue those who prey upon children and work tirelessly to ensure the safety of all residents in our jurisdiction.”
