FAIRFIELD, Ala. (WIAT) -- A Birmingham man shot and killed Sunday afternoon at the Western Hills Mall was identified Monday morning.
The shooting took place around 5:00 p.m. Sunday after two groups of people got into an argument in the Western Hills Mall Food Court. Deputies with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office discovered a 21-year-old injured in the shooting. That victim was taken to UAB Hospital for treatment.
During their investigation, deputies learned a 32-year-old who was also injured in the shooting and taken to Princeton Hospital by private vehicle. The victim, identified by the Jefferson County Coroner's Office as 32-year-old Darin Marquese Hall, died from his injuries.
The sheriff's office stated Hall was an innocent bystander.
"My main concern is keeping the citizens of Jefferson County safe. We will use all of our resources to bring those who are responsible to justice. As a result of this brazen act of violence, an innocent person has died," Jefferson County Sheriff Mark Pettway said.
