Troy Perry, storm water specialist for city of Birmingham, found dead in city hall stairwell

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- A geologist by trade who was involved in dealing with storm water and water pollution issues for the city of Birmingham, has died.

Troy Perry, a water pollution professional who had worked for the city since 2016, was found dead in the stairwell of Birmingham City Hall after 11 a.m. Thursday. According to the Jefferson County Coroner's Office, Perry was found at 11 a.m. and pronounced dead at 11:10 a.m.

An examination will be performed Friday to determine the cause of Perry's death. He was 67 years old.

As of Friday, the Jefferson County Coroner's Office has not found any signs of foul play connected with Perry's death.

An Auburn University graduate, Perry had worked as an environmental manager for the Jefferson County Department of Health's Air and Radiation Protection Division, as well as being a soil scientist and geologist for the department.

For a time, Perry was the board chair of the Alabama Board of Licensure for Professional Geologists and was a member of the Jefferson County Board of Zoning Adjustment.
