BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- A preliminary hearing for a mother charged in connection with the death of her 1-year-old child has been delayed until March 11.
Wendy Pamela Bailey, 22, was arrested on December 30 and charged with aggravated child abuse, first-degree domestic violence, abuse of a corpse, and criminally negligent homicide. The first three charges relate to the presumed death of Kahleb Collins, Bailey’s son who has not been seen since Sept. 9, while the latter charge was related to the death of Bailey’s 2-year-old daughter, Ryleigh, who along with her husband, Steven Bailey, was killed in a car accident Dec. 9 along County Road 73 in Fayette County. Bailey was injured in the crash and taken to UAB Hospital.
It was not until the car accident that police were notified that Kahleb Collins, who was not in the car, had been missing since September. As of Tuesday morning, Collins' body has not been found, but law enforcement believe he is dead.
Regarding her daughter's death, Bailey is charged with allegedly failing to buckle her up in the car prior to the crash that killed her and her father.
Bailey was initially scheduled to have a preliminary hearing in the case on February 11, but that hearing is now delayed due to District Attorney Andrew Hamlin having a jury trial in Pickens County.
Bailey is now scheduled to have her preliminary hearing on March 11.
