BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- The ex-boyfriend of a woman who died from reported domestic violence in 2024 was arrested Thursday.
On June 29, 2024, officers discovered Keysha Fikes suffering from life-threatening injuries in the 900 block of 46th Street North. She was transported to UAB Hospital where she subsequently died on Oct. 26. On the morning of the incident, Roosevelt Smith, 63, of Birmingham, was arrested for domestic violence.
This week, officers learned from the Jefferson County Medical Examiner's Office that Fikes' death was ruled a homicide. Detectives then issued a murder warrant on Smith and placed him in the Jefferson County Jail with no bond.
