ALBERTVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — A protest is taking place Wednesday evening in Albertville in support of undocumented people, according to posts on social media.
The protest was scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. in Downtown Albertville near city hall and the chamber of commerce. Social media video seen by News 19 shows a large group of people outside of the chamber on the sidewalk holding flags, posters and banners.
"We want to show our community that they're heard, they're seen, and that if they can’t speak up," Michelle Medina, protest organizer said. "We will speak up for them."
Protesters were encouraged to bring flags, posters and banners to show support.
Organizers asked for a peaceful demonstration to "champion the rights of those who are hesitant to express themselves."
"If this was really about criminals and anything like that, you wouldn't be raiding schools," protestor Adriana Ramirez said. "You wouldn't be coming up there. Little kids that are in school trying to study. And most of these parents have literally lost everything and family's been stripped away, like, it's just not right."
