BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- Grocery stores weren't the only business seeing traction Thursday, Little Hardware and the MedsPlus Consulting Pharmacy and Wellness Center say they were busy with customers shopping for last minute needs ahead of Friday's winter storm.
"It's been real busy," said Little Hardware Manager Patrick Davies.
According to Davies, customers spent Thursday in and out stocking up on winter weather supplies like flashlights, hand warmers and sand among other things saying the rush all started at the beginning of the week.
"We are sold out of sleds, we're getting a ton of calls about them. We are selling a ton of the faucet protectors. Like I think we probably sold, I mean, hundreds, if not thousands, of the faucet stuff in the last week in a half," said Davies.
While some prepared the outside of their homes, others prepared the inside starting with their medicine cabinets.
"People are trying to get their prescriptions, prescriptions that may have been ready for days, but they need them urgently," said Founder of MedsPlus Consulting Pharmacy and Wellness Center Dr. Pauline Long
That urgency, according to Dr. Long, is a result of the freezing temperatures ahead and in the case of possible power outages of lack of traveling.
"In the case of an emergency or they weren't aware that they needed the medications we had lots of deliveries today," said Dr. Long.
Dr. Long said outside of prescriptions they received calls from people asking about getting last minute vaccines before the storm as well.
