HOOVER, Ala. (WIAT) -- Area play is well underway for high school basketball, and for the Hoover Bucs, they return a lot of veteran talent with the goal of reappearing as state champs. CBS 42's Athlete of the Week is Hoover's DeWayne Brown.
The senior power forward has over 15 hundred career points throughout his four years wearing the black and orange, and he recently surpassed another milestone, grabbing over 1,000 career rebounds.
"He's a great kid," said Scott Ware, Hoover's head basketball coach. "He was, you know, his peers chose him as Mr. Hoover. So, yeah, I mean he's, that's who he is. He's a great student. He's a great person."
The Tennessee signee has been described as a leader who looks out for his teammates on and off the floor.
"I like to work hard," said Brown. "I like to get better, and I'm a really competitive person. So, I feel like that kind of pushes me to play hard and try to be better than other people. I enjoy it."
