BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- A woman has been arrested and charged with allegedly torturing a child to the point of death in Calera.
Jaqueline Adams, 58, was arrested in Gardendale Monday by the U.S. Marshals Service and charged with aggravated child abuse and murder. The charges stem from allegations of Adams reportedly abusing and a family member between July and Aug. 8 last year, whom she also "cruelly beat," according to an indictment filed in December.
"Protecting the most vulnerable members of society is a crucial responsibility," Calera PD Chief David Hyche said in a statement. "Children, the elderly, and individuals with special needs often lack the means to defend themselves, making them susceptible to exploitation and harm."
The case is under investigation.
