BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- A vigil will be held Tuesday night to honor the life of Mark Meadows, a lieutenant at the Irondale Police Department who was killed by an oncoming car while on duty Monday.
Meadows, who had been in law enforcement since 1992, will be honored with a vigil at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Irondale City Hall. As part of the vigil, Meadows’ patrol car will be displayed as a memorial to lay flowers and other items of remembrance.
Meadows, 60, was hit by a car while directing traffic at Church of the Highlands at the corner of Grants Mill Road and Overton Road at 7 a.m. Monday. The church was holding its "21 Days of Prayer" when a 32-year-old driver hit Meadows. Meadows died at Grandview Medical Center later that morning.
As of Tuesday, the driver involved in the crash has not been charged, ALEA reports.
The crash remains under investigation.
