BIRMINGHAM, Ala (WIAT) — Mike Vickery, head coach of the Pelham High School football team, is leaving the Panthers after three seasons at the helm.
Vickery, who came to Pelham in 2022 after six seasons at Northridge High School in Pelham, made the announcement on his Facebook page Wednesday.
"My time as the Head Football Coach at Pelham High School has come to an end," Vickery wrote. "I am sincerely grateful to the Pelham community for welcoming me and my family nearly three years ago. We are so thankful for each and every student, family, teacher and coach we had the opportunity to work with and learn from."
Vickery gave no reason for his departure.
Vickery leaves the program following a disappointing 1-9 season this year. Under him, the Panthers won only 12 of the last 32 games in three seasons, missing the playoffs the last two.
In his statement, Vickery said he knows the program is in good hands and that he and his staff always strived to make players "become the best version of themselves."
"While our long term vision for program success will not change, we will incorporate the lessons we learn daily to have a great impact on our students in the future," he wrote.
No replacement has been announced for the team.
