BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- Middle schoolers in Alabama have a chance to flex their civics knowledge and win prizes in the National Civics Bee competition.
The National Civics Bee is a nonpartisan civics competition that encourages young Americans to engage and contribute to their communities.
Any sixth, seventh, or eighth grade student is eligible to enter. Students are asked to respond to an essay prompt on how to use civics to improve their community and submit their essay by February 4, 2025.
From the essays, 20 finalists will be selected to go to the local competition in Fultondale on March 15. Winners from the local competition will advance to the state level and those winners will proceed to the national level.
