BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- Alabama will play Michigan in the ReliaQuest Bowl on New Year's Eve.
It's a rematch of last seasons College Football Playoff Rose Bowl semifinal matchup. Michigan went on to win that game, 27-20, before heading on to win the national championship. The Crimson Tide were the first team out of this seasons College Football Playoff after SMU got the nod over them.
It's been an inconsistent season for the Tide, as they defeated Georgia, Missouri, and South Carolina, all teams who finished in the top 25, but lost to Tennessee and two teams who finished the year .500 in Vanderbilt and Oklahoma. The loss to the Sooners seemed to be the final straw as the Crimson Tide were dominated by a team filled with injuries. Bama finished the regular season 9-3.
After winning the natty and losing their head coach to the NFL, it was a less than ideal season for the Wolverines, finishing 7-5. They still managed to shock the world and defeat their rival, Ohio State, 13-10. Quarterback play wasn't consistent throughout the season as they ended up turning to walk-on Davis Warren.
