BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and the Vanderbilt Commodores will meet in the Birmingham Bowl on Dec. 27.
Georgia Tech started the year off by defeating Florida State, 24-21, in Ireland. The team showed fight in each of its games and as a result, they extended head coach Brent Key for five more seasons. In its last contest, the Yellow Jackets battled Georgia in Athens, but after an eight-overtime thriller, were defeated, 44-42. They finished the season 7-5.
In a season in which they finished 6-6, the Vanderbilt Commodores made noise this season against some of the top teams in the country, but they shocked the country when they took down Alabama at home, 40-35. Diego Pavia made headlines throughout the season, including the fact that he helped take down Auburn to improve to 2-0 against them in his career. He was apart of the New Mexico State team that stunned the Tigers in Jordan-Hare last season.
Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on Dec. 27.
