BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- There were no cancelations on the board at Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport Wednesday morning.

The busiest days for air travel were last Friday and Saturday, according to Kim Hunt, the vice president of communications for the Birmingham Airport Authority. But the airport's parking deck was full when CBS 42 stopped by, and those planning to fly out are advised to give themselves plenty of time. There’s still room in the economy lot.

For those who chose to road trip this Thanksgiving, the weather also cooperated.

“From Memphis, we left about 6:45,” Patsy Hall said. “So it was nice travel.”

Hall is heading to Atlanta to visit her new great-grandson Ayden Rashad, who is 14 days old. One thing’s for sure: Her family will not go hungry this Thanksgiving.

“I came prepared, honey. We came to eat and play with the great-grandbaby,” Hall explained showing off her sweet potato pies.

Hall also packed homemade cornbread dressing, turkey, ham and pork shoulder.

After seeing how much food she had packed, its easy to understand why she’s driving instead of flying .

When asked if she had any advice for fellow travelers, she replied, “Don’t be in a rush and be thankful in your travels.”

Other drivers we met up with at Buc-ee’s in Leeds late Wednesday morning noted the roads were OK.

“They’re not as bad as I thought they would be,” Kirbi Thomas said.

“It was congested as normal through Atlanta,” Treassi Montez said. “But we got through pretty quickly though, like maybe 30 minutes.”

“It’s not terrible," Nicholas Dinehart said. "It’s pretty good, other than the fog."
