BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- An 18-month-old girl was injured in a shooting in the Wylam neighborhood Sunday night.
At around 6:45 p.m., South Precinct officers were dispatched to Children's Hospital on a report of a child shot.
Preliminary investigation revealed a possible shootout in the area with the child caught in the crossfire while traveling in a vehicle. Officers believe the scene of the incident was at the 5-Way service station at 4800 8th Avenue Wylam. The victim was transported to Children's Hospital in a private vehicle.
The child's injuries were non-life-threatening.
BPD believes that the intended target of the shooting was an adult who was traveling with the 18-month-old.
Officers learned that an adult male, traveling in a separate vehicle, was also shot in the same incident. The second victim arrived at UAB Hospital by ambulance. BPD does not believe that he was an intended target.
No one is in custody at this time.
