BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- A Birmingham man is charged with murder after two people were shot Oct. 30.
The Birmingham Police Department announced Tuesday that Andrew Blake Carter, 37, is charged with murder in relation to Melvin Burkes' death. Burkes was found shot in the 1700 block of Pearson Avenue Southwest and died from his injuries at UAB Hospital.
There was another man at the scene who was shot but suffered from not life-threatening injuries. Carter is also facing an attempted murder charge in connection to the shooting.
Carter is being held in the Jefferson County Jail after turning himself in to police. The murder charge carries no bond, while there is a $60,000 bond on the attempted murder charge.
