BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- Alabama’s 7th Congressional District Rep. Terri Sewell has been elected to serve another term, according to The Associated Press.
Sewell was first elected to her position in 2010, becoming the first Black woman to ever serve in the Alabama congressional delegation. Prior to her election, Sewell was the first Black woman partner in the law office of Maynard, Cooper & Gale, P.C.
Sewell is focused on job creation, workforce development, skills training and providing resources and economic opportunities to the 7th Congressional District.
In her efforts to address the unemployment crisis, she hosts an annual job fair and job readiness workshops throughout the district.
Sewell is involved in the House Ways and Means Committee, the House Armed Services Committee and the Committee on House Administration, where she serves as Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Elections. She is Chair of the Voting Rights Task Force in the Congressional Black Caucus, Co-Chair of the Congressional Voting Rights Caucus and the Rural Caucus and Vice-Chair of the Congressional HBCU Caucus.
