Sarah Stewart elected as chief justice of Alabama Supreme Court

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – Sarah Stewart has been elected as chief justice of the Alabama Supreme Court, according to The Associated Press.

Stewart was elected as an associate justice to the court in 2018 for a six-year term. Before that, she served 13 years as a circuit judge in Mobile. She was the first female jury trial judge in the area.

Stewart spent 14 years in private practice. She was also the first female president of the Mobile Young Lawyers.

Stewart holds a bachelor of arts and a master of arts in communication from the University of Arkansas as well as juris doctor from the Vanderbilt University Law School.
