4 dead, at least 9 injured after Birmingham nightclub shooting

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- The Birmingham Police Department is conducting a quadruple homicide investigation after multiple people were shot at a nightclub Saturday night.

According to BPD, officers arrived to a nightclub in the 3400 block of 27th Street North around 11:08 p.m. on reports of multiple people shot. Upon arrival, officers located multiple gunshot victims. Birmingham Fire and Rescue arrived on the scene and pronounced an adult male, who was located on a sidewalk near the nightclub, dead. BFRS pronounced two women, who they found inside, dead.

Multiple gunshot victims began arriving at UAB Hospital either by BFRS personnel or by private vehicle. UAB Hospital staff pronounced one man dead. There are at least nine additional gunshot victims receiving treatment at UAB.

Detectives are working to determine what led to shots being fired. Officer Truman Fitzgerald says officers believe at least one suspect fired shots from the street into the nightclub. No one is in custody at this time. Federal agencies are assisting BPD with the investigation.

The Birmingham Police Department is dedicated to protecting our community and restoring a sense of safety and security.

Together, we will make a difference."

A lot of innocent people were shot and killed yesterday. Many others wounded.

The Birmingham Police Department and our federal partners have one priority right now -- hunt these @#$% down who committed these heinous acts.

We need swift justice for the victims and their families.

The shooter/shooters deserve no safe harbor from their own family, friends, or strangers. Do not protect them.

BPD's investigation is better off with credible information from the community that will lead to their capture and arrest. There is always someone who knows something.
