TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) -- The Alabama Department of Transportation is expecting to start the final phase of the Gordo Bypass project Oct. 15.
In a Tuesday press release, the ALDOT stated it will realign U.S. Route 82 from the northwest city limits of Gordo to slightly east of the Tuscaloosa County line. Highway 82 will become a four-lane road going from the Mississippi state line to Tuscaloosa. The 8.14-mile project should take around two years.
Phase one was completed last year. That included earthmoving, drainage and bridge construction. The second and final phase will be regarding base and pavement work.
S.T. Bunn Construction Company was given a $45.59 million contract for the project, which is funded 80% by the federal government. The other 20% is from the state.
