BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- Inflation, job opportunities, student loans and border patrol is at the top of mind for some people as J.D. Vance and Tim Walz face off in their first vice presidential debate Tuesday night.

Elliott Scott is one Birmingham resident who says he hopes to hear Vance and Walz speak on these topics during the debate.

"What is the future of the economy going to be like. "I'm a union worker so I would like to hear what their plans are on supporting union work." said Scott.

Jada and Rodney McIntosh are two other Birmingham residents who share a similar thought.

"We both are college graduates, and you know we have decent jobs but it's still hard to budget." said McIntosh. "It's seems like a lot of just saying stuff to grab peoples attention instead of just really breaking it down letting us know what you want to do
So we can pick and make just like a knowledge informed decision."

As Walz and Vance get ready to take the stage Tuesday, people say they're hoping to hear about their individual policies and how they plan to help the president accomplish them.

"It's seeming like a lot of just saying stuff to grab people's attention instead of just really breaking it down letting us know what you want to do so, we can pick and make just like a knowledge informed decision," said McIntosh.

CBS 42 political analyst Steve Flowers believes the vice presidential debate won't necessarily change voters decisions coming Nov. 5.

Flowers said although the state of the economy will likely be discussed there may not be a direct answer.

"Neither one of them will answer that Vance will blame the Biden Harris group for the inflation and Walz will just change the subject." said Flowers.

As election day inches closer some say they will tune in to Tuesday's Vice-Presidential debate as they want to know where each candidate stands.
