BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- The BJCC will celebrate 50 years of the BJCC Concert Hall and Theatre on Oct. 12.

The celebration will include free food, games, face painting, a scavenger hunt and ticket giveaways. It will take place in the plaza outside the concert hall from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Also, the Birmingham Children's Theatre will give away free tickets to the first 10 families who visit its tent at the celebration for the 11 a.m. production of "Peter and the Wolf." Families who come after the free tickets are claimed will receive a 25% discount for the show.

“This celebration is not just a commemoration of the past but a heartfelt thank you to the generations who have supported us throughout the years,” BJCC CEO Tad Snider said in a press release. “We invite everyone to join us as we honor our shared history and look forward to many more years of bringing outstanding entertainment to Birmingham.”

The concert hall and theatre opened on Oct. 3, 1974. It has brought performers such as Bruce Springsteen, Coldplay, Dave Chappelle, Jerry Seinfeld, Ray Charles, Robin Williams and Tina Turner to the Magic City.
