BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Birmingham Police Department continues to investigate a fatal shooting on I-65 North.

At around 10:55 p.m. Wednesday, North Precinct officers responded to a call of a single-vehicle crash on the interstate just past the 32nd Avenue exit. Jonathan Lenair Bradberry, 55, was found shot in the car's driver seat.

Sgt. Laquitta Wade said investigators found five to six shell casings on the scene, as the vehicle was shot multiple times.

“We believe that the shooting possibly started right at the 32nd Avenue exit ramp and the victim drove approximately one mile up before crashing his vehicle into the median,” Sgt. Wade said.

Construction workers were the ones who heard shots being fired. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service took Bradberry to UAB Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

“We definitely want to ensure the public they are not at risk of a person just randomly shooting at vehicles," Sgt. Wade said. "The victim unfortunately was targeted by someone."

There are no suspects in custody. BPD urges anyone with information to call detectives at 205-254-1764 or Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.
