BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) – Exactly 15 weeks after she was bitten by a shark while vacationing in the Florida Panhandle, Lulu Gribbin has returned to school in Mountain Brook.
Gribbin's mother, Ann Blair, provided the update via the family's page on Caring Bridge. Within the journal entry, she described the Gribbins' adjustments to their new home life in Birmingham after Lulu's discharge from inpatient treatment at a North Carolina hospital.
The mother of four wrote about a heartwarming moment she witnessed between Lulu and Ellie, her twin sister.
"Today was the day that answered the most popular question we get which is when will Lulu go back to school?" Ann Blair wrote. "Today was the day I witnessed the most amazing moment in my life. I woke up and went to check on Lulu to make sure she was up. I walked into the bathroom and Ellie was doing Lulu's hair. Ellie had woken her up. Ellie was helping her get dressed for her big day."
"Today Lulu went back to school, and I am so proud of not only Lulu but her amazing sister Ellie! I hope she knows how truly amazing she is," Ann Blair concluded.
Gribbin, who lost one hand a leg in the shark attack, continues to attend physical and occupational therapy three times a week as she continues her recovery.
