BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — Next week, on what is considered the most unlucky day of the year, many will be looking to commemorate Friday the 13th in permanent way.
Since 2008, tattoo enthusiasts have flocked to their local artists on Friday the 13th for tattoo deals and specials. The tradition started when a Dallas tattoo shop owner tattooed the number 13 on 415 customers, making it into the Guinness Book of World Records.
Here's which local shops are offering tattoos for a discounted price next Friday:
- Heavily Tatted -- Birmingham
- Heavily Tatted is offering select $31 tattoos and $20 basic piercings. Designs included in the special can be found here.
- Stay Gold Tattoo -- Hoover and Fultondale
- Stay Gold Tattoo will be offering select designs for $40- $200. Select piercings will be $40 each. The special is first-come, first-serve, meaning the shop will be accepting walk-ins only.
- Magic City Ink -- Moody
- Magic City Ink is offering select flash tattoos starting at $30. Their Friday the 13th event will include a shaved ice truck and door prizes. More information, as well as available designs, can be found here.

- Good Neighbor Body Art is offering select designs for $130. Select piercings will be $40. Some artists only have a limited number of spots available. Individual artist information can be found here.
- Atra Capra Tattoo Collective -- Birmingham
- At Atra Capra Tattoo Collective, different artists are offering different deals. One artist, Devin, who goes by iamdevinstattoos on Instagram, is offering select designs for $30- $60 with just line art, and $40- $100 with shading/ color. Drew Magnuson, who goes by doctor.tattoos on Instagram, is offering $100 tattoo appointments alongside 13 $31 designs. More information can be found here.
