BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — A woman has pleaded guilty to killing someone with her car after she was confronted of breaking into different cars in Pell City.
On Wednesday, Shawna Masten pleaded guilty to nearly 20 counts of murder, robbery, theft of property, breaking and entering a motor vehicle and leaving the scene of an accident. Masten and Christopher Cody Masters were arrested following the death of Rebekah Poe, who died after being hit by a car in Pell City on November 20, 2022.
Masten and Masters had been on the run before being arrested in Denver last February.
As part of her murder plea, Masten will spend life in prison and the other charges will run concurrent with one another. Masten has waived her right to appeal her murder conviction.
Masters' case is still pending in court.
