Monday: A mostly sunny sky is expected on Monday as a surface high continues to keep us quiet. High temperatures will reach the middle 90s for much of the area, while the drier air keeps heat indices below 100°.
This Week: A ridge of high pressure will move from the central Plains to the Deep South by midweek, weakening some with time. The weakening trend of this ridge is good news in terms of lowering our high temperatures slightly for midweek compared to previous forecasts. It now appears the muggier air will also try to creep back in more so on Wednesday, making it harder to reach that 100° mark during the afternoon. Much of central Alabama can expect a gradual warming trend heading into midweek with highs in the upper 90s Tuesday through Thursday.

A few locations will reach 100°, but heat index values will be approaching 105° or hotter for the second half of this week. The steamy airmass returns and remains in place heading into your next weekend. A small stair-climb downward in temperatures occurs with very small rain chances returning by Friday and Saturday as the ridge begins to break down. It’s possible a few showers are out there on Thursday, but we’ll be staying dry for the majority of this week.
