BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- The 2024-25 college football season will welcome the new playoff format as 12 teams will now have the opportunity to compete for a national championship.
The 12 playoff participants will feature the five highest ranked conference champions, plus the next seven highest ranked teams. The four highest ranked conference champions will be seed one through four and receive a first round bye. First round games will be played on campuses to be announced on Selection Day.
The SEC could look to have potentially four to five teams get into the playoff. Georgia and Texas are the betting odd favorites to meet in the SEC Championship game. Alabama, Ole Miss and LSU have the highest odds to make the CFP behind the Longhorns and Bulldogs.
