BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) -- A football game between two Birmingham high schools Thursday will address the effects of gun violence in the community.

A. H. Parker and Ramsay high schools will compete in the "Second Annual Stop the Violence Football Classic" at Legion Field.

Birmingham City Schools Superintendent Mark Sullivan said 20 of the school system's students have died from gun violence in the past two-and-a-half years. He said the game is a way for students to send a message to their peers about the impact.

"Our goal with this is to listen to the voices of students and come up with a solution that's driven by our students, so they'll listen to each other," Sullivan said. "Often times, they don't listen to adults."

The game will kick off at 7 p.m. Thursday.
