PELHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — South City Theatre announced the programs for its upcoming Summer Short Play Festival, featuring original performances from playwrights and actors.
Summer Shorts ’24 is set for July 19 through 21 at the venue's Alpine Square Theatre in Pelham. Friday and Saturday's performances are set for 7:30 p.m. and Sunday's begins at 2 p.m.
This event will showcase five 10-minute plays. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased online or by calling the theatre's box office at 205-621-2128.

1-800 by Joseph Sorrentino
A simple phone call to an automated banking system turns into a humorous battle of wits between a computer-generated voice and a frustrated customer, leaving us to wonder if computers have already taken over the world. Directed by Genni Boatwright, starring Wendy Dewberry and Alan Ashman.
Barbie and Ken by Sandra Dempsey
Pass the cigars! The world's cutest anatomically incorrect couple are proud parents! But wait - something is amiss in parental paradise! Barbie's just back from the delivery room, and Ken's in for the shock of his plastic life! Directed by Lesley Warren, starring Rylie Jackson and West Key.
Benchmarks by Glenn Alterman
Benches -- they used to be just for the rich, the privileged. Now all people can sit and rest. Telly and Ted find themselves sitting on the same bench, waiting for a bus. This existential drama contemplates life, death and the hereafter. Directed by Valerie Brock, starring Kevin B. Townes and Eryn Smith.
The History of Television, Condensed by John C. Havens
Two zany announcers act out The History of Television from caveman times to the present. Whether it's I Love Lucy or confusing modern commercials, this zany duo proves that we can't live without TV. Directed by Andy Johnson, starring Dana Cheek and Romeo Garrison.
Spies by David J. LeMaster
They've made contact, exchanged secret codes, traded top secrets. But Agent 62455 has been tricked.
