BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — A man has been arrested after allegedly trying to kidnap a child from a gas station in Fairfield.
Jimmy Cone, 55, has been charged with first-degree kidnapping and child abuse maltreat on Wednesday, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office reports.
According to police, deputies were called to the Marathon Gas Station on Aaron Aronov Drive after receiving a report of an attempted abduction of a 4-year-old child. Deputies arrived on scene, discovering the victim had already been seen by Fairfield Fire and Rescue.
"Preliminary investigation revealed that an adult male suspect attempted to forcefully take the victim from their mother; however, the mother immediately gained control of her child, and the suspect left the store," a statement from the JCCO read.
Cone was quickly spotted two blocks away from the scene and arrested.
Cone is being held at Jefferson County Jail on $45,000 bond.
