COLUMBIANA, Ala. (WIAT) — Last week, a 29-year-old man was arrested after allegedly being found in possession of several pieces of child pornography.
Dantavius Lamar Washington, of Sterrett, was arrested Friday and charged with 10 counts of possession of child pornography, according to the Shelby County Sheriff's Office.
Investigators claim that back in May, they received a tip from the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force about Washington. None of the images recovered were from children in Shelby County, nor was the footage filmed in the area.
“I am grateful for the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force in their dedication and help investigating this case," Sheriff John Samaniego said in a statement. "The safety and well-being of our community remains a top priority, and the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office is dedicated to pursuing justice with the utmost diligence and care. The arrest of Washington marks a crucial step in contributing to this mission.”
Washington was subsequently released from the Shelby County Jail after posting $300,000 bond.
The case remains under investigation.
